Planning an Event on Longboat Key
Sea turtle season
From May 1 through October 31, the Town of Longboat Key requires tents, canopies, chairs, and other temporary items to be off the beach from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., and beach-visible lighting must meet turtle-friendly standards.
Events on town property
Special events on public property, including the beach, parks, and town facilities, require a Public Forum Permit from the Town of Longboat Key.

What lighting works during turtle season?
For events visible from the beach during nesting season, lighting generally needs to be low, shielded, and long-wavelength, such as amber LEDs, with interior light kept out of view. We’ll help you plan a lighting approach that meets the requirements while still creating atmosphere.
How far in advance should we book an island event?
For winter and spring dates, reserve three to six months ahead. Island events often need extra coordination with associations and the town.
